If we don’t pass initiative measure 434, won’t 439 win by default?
No! That is not how Nebraska’s initiative process works.
For either measure to pass, two things must take place:
If both initiatives meet these criteria, only then would the initiatives have their “For” votes compared, and the one with the most “For” votes would become law.
To read more about this, see the Nebraska Secretary of State’s publication, “How to Use the Initiative and Referendum Process in Nebraska.” The relevant information is on page 10.

But haven’t seven other states already had abortion measures on their ballots, and “life” has lost in each of those states?
First, please take some time to reread the similarities between both amendments that are detailed on the home page. If either measure passes, abortion wins. The only losers under such an amended Constitution will be more and more preborn children, made in the image of God but condemned to death by the law. Is that what you want?
Second, one measure passing is not essential to defeating the other. See the answer to the prior question.
Third, even if it were, any amount of injustice we see or perceive taking place in other states should cause us all the more to seek justice here in Nebraska, not pass an unjust law of our own!
